Museum of Making Music

Museum of Making Music

We were truly honored to work so closely with the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA, spearheading a complete renovation of their cherished space. Throughout this renovation, we executed hundreds of unique projects, from dimensional signage to wall and furniture wraps, informational graphics, and experiential pieces. Undoubtedly, this was one of the most dramatic and involved renovations we've had the privilege to be part of.

Entry Wood Look Logo Wall Sign

Upon entering the renovated space, you are greeted by a warm wood-look "Museum of Making Music" logo sign, specially designed to complement the client's new wooden lobby desk. To achieve this look, we used 3M's DI-NOC architectural wood grain film series, offering the appearance of real wood while utilizing a flexible premium vinyl film. We found a nearly identical match to the wood species used for the desk thanks to the vast array of film options available. The logo letters were then CNC cut from 1" thick PVC, and meticulously painted to perfectly match the wood species. The final result is a stunning logo sign that replicates the look of real wood but is much lighter and requires no maintenance or aftercare.

Thank You Wall

We designed and crafted a special "THANK YOU" wall to celebrate the museum's incredible legacy donors whose generosity have made it possible to share the joy of music with the community. We wanted this wall to be an elegant and modern tribute to these donors. To bring this goal to life we produced the "THANK YOU" title element out of two intricately cut layered acrylic pieces that were custom painted to match the display's backdrop. Each donor is honored with a personalized dimensional panel that provides insight into their musical journey and features a dimensional second surface photograph. It's a tribute that warmly showcases their impact and love for music.

Wall Wraps

To enhance the museum experience we produced and installed over 30 unique large wall wraps. Each wrap brought context and a sense of connection to the displays, transforming the walls into vivid backdrops. As visitors engage with these graphics, they become immersed in the rich history of the instruments and the devoted individuals who have profoundly impacted the world through their creation, manufacturing, and musical mastery.

Storage Cabinet Wraps

In a museum as expansive and interactive as this, storage space becomes invaluable. To seamlessly integrate functionality into the museum's experience, we wrapped the storage cabinets in eye-catching graphics and accented them with tasteful dimensional letters. This creative approach not only elevates the cabinets' humble origins but also maximizes the museum's footprint, allowing visitors to remain fully immersed in the captivating exhibits.

Interactive Book Display

One of the renovation's standout experiential features is this custom oversized book display. Its large "pages" were wrapped in vibrant and informative graphics, offering glimpses into various aspects of music production, history, and culture as they are flipped back and forth.

Make Music Clear Acrylic Display

This 6ft wide by 5ft high acrylic display is a wonderful example of how to tastefully recognize those who have made a significant impact on the museum. To create this display, we laser cut a 3/4" thick clear acrylic sheet and UV printed white ink onto optically clear vinyl and applied it to the backside of the display. Each letter of "MAKE MUSIC" comprises the names of those who contributed to making the museum a community landmark. The display casts a subtle shadow on the backdrop when viewed from the right angle, adding to its sophistication and charm.

Gallery Dividers

The museum is divided into four key gallery spaces, each highlighting different aspects of musical instruments – making the instruments, providing the instruments, using the instruments, and beyond the instruments. For each section, we crafted gallery divider displays using a carefully layered approach. Vibrant photographs wrapped the base of the displays, and on top, we added a thick laser-cut acrylic title layer to identify each space. Below each title, we digitally printed a summary of the gallery's information on premium etched film, which allows the text to be legible while allowing some of the base layers vibrant imagery and colors to peek through.

Dimensional Wall Lettering

Throughout the museum, we used 1" thick, CNC cut white PVC lettering to enhance displays and provide visitor information. The result is a modern, clean, and elegant effect.
